Inventors and Entrepreneurs SIG

HISTORY

In early 2000, Mr. Richard Rodriguez and Ed Hopkins took the initiative to create a distinct Special Interest Group under the Technology Advocates of San Antonio,(TASA), a non-profit technology based organization.

The idea to enhance TASA's membership through an inventors and entrepreneurs special interest group (SIG) was formalized at an August 7, 2000 meeting between Ruben Lopez, then, Executive Director of TASA, Richard Rodriguez and Ed Hopkins. In a traditional inventive process, an idea was "reduced to practice" resulting in a new creation for San Antonio! -- the TASA Inventors and Entrepreneur Special Interest Group (TASA I&E SIG).

The TASA I&E SIG is a group member of the United Inventors Association -- UIA. "It is considered one of the most progressive group in the United States," states Carol Oldenburg, adminstrator of the UIA. www.uiausa.org.

I&E SIG Mission:

Our mission is to be a regional compass group offering resources to local inventors and entrepreneurs. Our monthly meeting format includes a free public networking hour which offers an environment of information exchange to assist in locating or providing small business assistance, consulting services, manufacturing resources, financial guidance, and legal mentorship. The membership only speaker program immediately proceeding the network hour consists of speakers who typify our objectives of helping launch local ideas to world markets.

I&E SIG Objective:

• To bring inventors and entrepreneurs together with business professionals such as CPA's, Patent Attorneys, and manufacturers.
• To help explain the invention process and provide constructive feedback to inventors and entrepreneurs.
• To establish and provide a centralized source of information on topics regarding:
  
  • Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights, and Licensing
  • Business Plans
  • R&D and Prototypes
  • Product Evaluation and Development
  • Manufacturing
